Guide

How PDF to Word conversion works

Converting a PDF to Word turns a fixed-layout document back into an editable one. The converter reads the text, fonts, and layout in the PDF and rebuilds them as a DOCX (or RTF or plain text) file you can open and edit in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or LibreOffice. This is the fastest way to reuse content trapped in a PDF without retyping it.

How well is formatting preserved?

PDFs describe exact positions rather than document structure, so conversion is inherently a best-effort reconstruction. Simple, text-based documents convert very cleanly, keeping paragraphs, headings, and basic tables. Highly designed layouts with multiple columns, text boxes, and complex tables may need some tidying after conversion. Converting to plain text is the most reliable when you only need the words.

Text PDFs vs. scanned PDFs

There are two kinds of PDF. A text-based PDF (exported from a word processor) contains real, selectable text that converts accurately. A scanned PDF is essentially a photo of a page, with no text layer, so a straightforward converter cannot extract editable words from it; that requires optical character recognition (OCR). If you cannot select text in your PDF, it is likely a scan.

Is your file secure?

Conversion happens on our servers because it needs document-processing libraries, and your uploaded file is automatically deleted within an hour. We never store the contents or share them. For highly sensitive documents, be mindful that any server-side conversion involves uploading the file.
